The Berry Creative team is made up of a handful of experienced professionals, each bringing their own speciality and expertise to the table.

Berry Creative (formerly JB Design) is a branding, web design and graphic design agency founded by J Berry and Kim Hua in 2006 and based in South Norwalk, Connecticut. Our legal name is Berry Creative LLC. We are a team of five, and we work with healthcare practices, hospitality venues, financial firms, nonprofits and growing companies across Connecticut and the Northeast.

J Berry

Founding Partner

J Berry is a co-founder of Berry Creative. As an award-winning branding and identity professional, J is an idea person who can conceive, develop, and express complex brand and identity concepts and orchestrate comprehensive brand campaigns. What motivates J? It’s not the numerous design awards his work has earned – including a recent Gold Award from Communication Arts. While these are a source of pride, his real incentive is the satisfaction of being part of the development and long-term success of his clients’ brands. When not feverishly meeting deadlines, J can be found under the hood of his vintage Mustang – or making fresh tracks on the ski slopes in Colorado.

Kathy Kohler

Strategy

Kathy Kohler, a passionate leader and strategist, collaborates with clients to turn organizational visions into powerful brands. Recognized as an expert in brand and marketing strategy, she has influenced major transformations for leading companies like Anthem, Aetna, Bank of America, and more. Kathy’s career began as a Top 10 Female Copper Trader globally before transitioning to management consulting and marketing roles. With a background in business management from The London School of Economics and a BA from Iona College, she is also a talented speaker who enjoys outdoor activities with her family when not working.

Kim Hua

Founding Partner

Kim Hua is a co-founder of Berry Creative. A devoted basketball fan, Kim loves to see her alma mater, the University of Indiana, score repeatedly. But she herself also manages to score – over and over again with clients, as her wealth of past experience allows her to overcome obstacles and contribute to all aspects of the firm’s operations. She excels in measuring the success of a company’s website design and performance, based on brand alignment, user interaction and evaluation. The results offer the most objective, corrective and actionable guidelines available. Overcoming the hurdles and paving the way for intuitive design and architecture, she helps clients maximize the return on their web investments.

Dave Nemiah

Strategy

A builder of strong brands for more than two decades. An expert in brand strategy development, Dave has broad experience fashioning consumer research to uncover hidden marketplace drivers and develop brand strategies that tap into their motivational power.

In collaboration with long-standing client Business Finland, Dave has recently launched a customized “brand strategy boot camp” which features two-day brand coaching sessions to help small-to-mid-sized companies clarify their value proposition, messaging and pitch decks in preparation for US market entry. Dave lives in an old house in South Glastonbury and during the summer months, when he is not in office, you will likely find him sailing on Long Island Sound.

Abby Baer

Senior Designer

The senior graphic designer on our design team, Abby wears many hats and is our energizer bunny – both as an idea person with extensive experience in both digital and print design, and as an enthusiastic team player with terrific collaborative and interpersonal skills. These allow her to manage effective client relationships while working seamlessly with internal teams to deliver outstanding creative products. Providing vital input from the initial concept through the strategy development and execution, she has become an indispensable part of our day to day operations.

Emma Brown

Designer

Emma Brown is a standout graphic designer on the Berry Creative team. Easily recognizable with her companion, Sadie, attached to her hip. Emma is a buttoned-up and detail-oriented professional, showcasing a signature style in everything from clever web designs and consumer print brochures to video and animation. A graduate of Mount Holyoke with a BA in Chemistry, Emma is not only dedicated to her craft but also passionate about her community, seen through her involvement with the Greens Ledge Light Preservation Society, a local non-profit. When she’s not in the office, you’ll find Emma taking leisurely walks with her dog Sadie.

Jull Weber

Developer

Jull Weber, our miracle worker, has 20 years+ of experience in creative front-end software development, specializing in WordPress and E-commerce platforms. A Rhodes Scholar with a background in computer science and engineering from Purdue University and MIT, Jull transforms abstract ideas into innovative solutions. His portfolio includes notable online experiences for clients like Disney, ESPN, Honda, and more. Fluent in JavaScript, PHP, Zend, Magento, HTML5, CSS, JQuery, and more, Jull delivers engaging and intuitive user experiences. Despite spending time behind a desk, he stays in top shape and enjoys frequenting the gym.

Howard Buksbaum

Developer

Howie, a seasoned professional in technology from the era of Commodore 64 to modern web development, showcases adaptability and commitment to staying ahead in the tech landscape. Specializing in web development, Howard excels in WordPress, JavaScript, React, Vue, PHP, Zend, Magento, HTML5, CSS, jQuery, and responsive/mobile design. His holistic approach prioritizes user experience and client dynamics, ensuring applications align with broader goals. Renowned as the “Professional Problem Solver,” Howie’s troubleshooting skills make him invaluable to any team. Beyond coding, he indulges in tinkering, showcasing his problem-solving passion in and beyond the digital realm.

Greg Voornas

Copywriter

Greg Voornas. Our wordsmith and chief copy generator, Greg honed his writing skills while spending the first 20 years of his career at some of the most respected ad agencies on the planet. These include Ogilvy & Mather, Bozell Worldwide, Foote, Cone & Belding, Wells Rich Greene and Young and Rubicam. Whether writing short snappy copy or rewriting a large website with SEO in mind, Greg heartily subscribes to David Ogilvy’s advice to a client decades ago: “You cannot bore people into buying your product.”
